Mary Katherine Lykins, 91, of Richmond, formerly of Betsy Layne, Kentucky, in Floyd County, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Telford Terrace in Richmond.
She was born on March 18, 1921, to Green Berry Watkins and Martha Reynolds Watkins, both of whom preceded her in death, and the widow of Edward Lykins.
Mrs. Lykins was a former employee of Eastern Kentucky University where she was in charge of the Information desk at the Powell Building. She was also a life-long seamstress and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ison (Jack) of Richmond; two sons, Edward Lykins (JoAnn) of Columbia, Maryland and James Lykins (Beulah) of Taylor Mill, Kentucky; one sister, Reva Breeding of Florida; one brother, Earl Watkins of Hamilton, Ohio. She also leaves five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, WITH Rev. Bruce Nettleton and Rev. Gene Strange officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Jack Ison, the grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Hospice Care Plus.
